What’s the difference between a kayak and canoe?
Kayaks were invented 1000’s of years ago by the Eskimos kayaking is distinguished from canoeing by the sitting position of the paddler. The paddler sits facing forwards with their legs in front, most kayaks have closed decks.
Canoeing also has a long history, a canoe is often referred to as a Canadian Canoe these have an open deck and are canoed with a single bladed paddle in a kneeling or sitting position.
Both kayaking and canoeing have become Olympic sports. There are various forms kayaking and canoeing and types of boats. We use the Old Town Discovery 158 canoes which are agile, stable and easy to handle. These are one of the most popular canoes on the market and suitable beginners to experts.
So do you fancy canoeing on a beautiful stretch of river or the tranquillity of a lake admiring the picturesque landscapes and stopping off along the way for relaxation and refreshments. How about the Swallows and Amazons canoe experience on Coniston Water or a canoe taster session on a lake?

What sets a canoeing expedition apart is that it purifies you more rapidly and inescapably than any other travel. Travel a thousand miles by train and you are brute; pedal five hundred on a bicycle and you remain basically bourgeois; paddle a hundred in a canoe and you are already a child of nature Pierre Trudeau
