EVER FANCIED KAYAKING BUT DIDN’T WANT TO THROW YOURSELF IN AT THE DEEP END? YOU HAVE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE!

Our Ripon to Boroughbridge Kayak Experience on the River Ure is aimed at people who are complete beginners wanting a ‘kayaking river journey’, those looking for a fun day out with like-minded people doing something a little different or those looking for a fun and exciting family day.

Our kayaking adventure from Ripon to Boroughbridge unfolds at our office in Boroughbridge, situated on the River Ure’s edge. Here, you’ll find convenient amenities such as toilets, showers, parking, and a secure space for storing your valuables. Once geared up with the necessary equipment, we’ll hop in a taxi (paid by Alfresco Adventures), to the starting point in Ripon.

Before hitting the water, our staff will provide a basic introduction to kayaking, offering enough guidance to get you started. The journey kicks off on the Ripon canal, providing an ideal setting to hone your skills. A few kilometers into our paddle, passing through a couple of locks, we pause at the well-maintained Oxclose Lock for a rejuvenating break. After replenishing snacks and recharging, our adventure continues onto the meandering River Ure.

Gliding down the wide, slow-moving river, you’ll be accompanied by the serene sounds of water and birds. Keep an eye out for riverside wildlife, including kingfishers, herons, and other fascinating creatures. Our route takes us past the splendid gardens of Newby Hall, reaching the halfway point at Westwick Lock. Here, at the picturesque Westwick Lock, we take another break for a picnic-style lunch (bring your own).

Post-lunch, the journey resumes, guiding us all the way to the charming town of Boroughbridge, where we conclude our adventure back at our office. After changing and getting ready to depart with a smile on your face, we’ll share with you the photos taken during the adventure, providing a lasting memory of your experience.

As Kenneth Grahame said “There is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.”
